Because my group have chosen to do a romantic drama, we decided to research the common representations of this genre by the media. Knowing this will influence my character choices and potentially the storyline.
These are some examples of romantic drama films:
This film involves two main characters, Leo (Channing Tatum) and Paige (Rachel McAdams). They have just got married and after an accident Paige is left unconscious and this leaves her with brain damage causing her to lose her memory. Paige's parents who she hasn't seen seen her and Leo started seeing each other and Leo come to see her in hospital. When it is explained to her that she hasn't seen her parents for so long she is confused and can't understand why. Leo wants to take his wife home however Paige's parents want her to go with them. She decides to go with Leo but feels scared and lost when she doesn't recognise anything so goes to her parents house. Paige tries to figure out why she hasn't seen her parents for so long and when she runs into her ex she wonders why they broke up. The rest of the film is mainly dedicated to Leo trying to help Paige remember their life together and help her remember why she loved him.
This film is about a young man, Charlie St. Cloud (Zac Efron) and his younger brother Sam (Charlie Tahan). After his brother gets killed in a car crash, their special connection allows Charlie to still see Sam. They make a promise that each night at the same time and place they will play catch and talk. However Charlie begins to fall in love with a girl making it more and more difficult for him to see his younger brother. Charlie realises he must chose between keeping the promise he made to Sam or going after the girl he loves.
Iris is a woman living in London, she writes a wedding column in a newspaper and has been in love with her colleague Jasper Bloom ever since they met. Just before Christmas she finds out Jasper is engaged and her heart is yet again broken. In Los Angeles, a move-trailer maker Amanda Woods has just broken up with her boyfriend Ethan and wants to forget him. Both Iris and Amanda decide to search for a place to escape to and after discovering a house exchange website, Iris sees Amanda's mansion and Amanda falls in love with Iris' cottage and they decide to swap house. When Amanda moves into the cottage she bumps into Iris' brother Graham and they fall in love with each other. Iris meanwhile meets her new next door neighbour Arthur who is very old and she decides to help. He also helps her to retrieve her self-esteem and Miles a film composer who she falls in with.
