Analysis:
The genre of this film is shown instantly in the opening title sequence by the events that happen during it. We first see a couple coming out of the cinema linking arms which tells the audience they must be in a relationship and that this is the main focus of the film. Therefore informing the audience that this film has a romantic genre. You can also tell the beginning of this film is set around the time of Christmas because it has snowed, this is a typical connotation used in the film industry to portray the romance genre. The drama element of the film is also shown by the car accident which happens 2 minutes into the opening title sequence. Just before this happens, a voice over is used to narrate what one of the characters is thinking. This is effective as what he says relates to what is about to happen, making it more dramatic. Music begins at 2:18 which is slow and mirrors the slow motion footage of the car crash again making the scene shocking to the audience and immediately makes them feel emotionally attached to the characters. This connection between the audience and the characters is important as it is key to making a popular film by making the film seem more realistic. In this opening sequence, the companies which funded the film production are credited first, then the main actors and then the film title. This is due to the fact that they are the most important people involved with the film for example, the famous actors would give the film a pre-sold audience which would help increase the amount of money made at the box office and therefore the overall profit of the film. The font used for the credits is very simple and plain and this could have been chosen to mirror their true love for one another. Also the colour of the font is white, even for the title of the film, and due to the fact that the colour white is often used to signify purity and virginity, it could be a sign of their love being pure and their innocence before the accident. Each letter of the credit appears spontaneously and disappears in the same way, some people may argue that this symbolises the time of year and the credits are made to look like lights flickering or snow falling, making the connection between the two characters seem magical and other people may think that it is mysterious and mirrors the unexpectedness of the accident.
